Thy Kingdom Come [May 2024]

Join Churches Together to pray ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ in the 10 days between Ascension Day and Pentecost, as we focus our prayer that God’s Kingdom would be revealed here in Haverhill, and in all those communities of which we are a part. We encourage everyone to use the 10 days from 9th to 19th May to pray in whatever way you find best for the people and places that God places on your hearts.

Our prayer begins on Ascension Day, Thursday 9th May, when there is a service from the top of St Mary’s tower praying a blessing on the town. You can meet us at 7.30am for the service or join us online, which is followed by a Eucharist in church and breakfast.

Then on Saturday 18th May, we have an engagement event on the High Street from 10am, as we give away free chocolate bars bearing the message ‘God is Love’, and bringing the Good News of God’s love to the people that we meet. We do need help with the give-away, so come down to the High Street if you can.

In the evening, all are invited to Chalkstone Community Centre for a prayer meeting at 7pm, when we will bring all our hopes and desires to see the blessings of the Spirit poured out upon the people of Haverhill, including upon those we have spoken to in the morning. We hope this is a time to bring anything that has come up for us during the whole 10 days of prayer before God in the presence of our brothers and sisters in Christ, and to be strengthened by our fellowship in Jesus’s name.

‘Thy Kingdom Come’ is a global, ecumenical prayer movement which invites all Christians to join in with the prayer to see God’s Kingdom revealed. By praying for our own people and places, we can see Haverhill transformed by God’s love, and we can also play our part in transforming the nation and the whole world according to God’s ways of peace, justice and mercy.

There are some prayer journals which are available from St Mary’s for £1 each, or available to download, which may help to focus your prayer during these 10 days, with resources from prominent Christians of various denominations.
